Summer Activities in Pittsburgh

Summer Activities in Pittsburgh | Pizza Parma

Despite the summer season being short in the Steel City, there are a lot of exciting ways to get outdoors and enjoy the warm weather. Visiting Pittsburgh this summer? Check out our tips on how to experience the beauty of the city with a few of the best summer activities in Pittsburgh.

Kayak on the Three Rivers

Aside from its steel hub history, Pittsburgh is known for its three rivers—the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio river. Little known fact: Pittsburgh has more bridges than Sicily, Italy with a staggering 446 bridges! Guess we’re called the “City of Bridges” for a reason. That said, there’s no better way to explore these natural wonders than by kayak. Just float down the river and take in the city skyline. Need to rent a kayak? Stop by the rental shop in the North Shore by PNC Park.

Ride the Incline and take in the View on Mount Washington

Completed back in 1877 and inclined at a 30 degree angle, the Duquesne/Monongahela Incline is a Pittsburgh classic. Additionally, the Incline is a protected historical landmark. As a scenic and unique way to travel through the city, enjoy some delicious food in Station Square and make your way up to the iconic views of the city skyline at Mount Washington. Tickets are less than $3 at the entrance.

Bike the Three Rivers Heritage Trail

If you’re looking for some cool summer activities in Pittsburgh, explore the area by land with a bike ride through the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, which parallels the riverbanks of the city. Offering breathtaking views along the way, the trail spans 25 miles for you to explore. If you need to rent a bike, stop by the various bike rental shops or Highmark pay-as-you-go bike racks across the city.
